FY2009 grant awards total $312 million. In FY2009, both the Freight Rail Security Grant Program (FRSGP) and the TSGP Tier II program were awarded their entire target allocations of $15 Million and $36.6 Million respectively, due to an increase in the quantity and quality of applications. Thus, TSGP Tier I received their target allocation of $312 Million and not any additional funds from FRSGP and Tier II like in FY2008.
Grant recipients are intracity rail, bus, and ferry systems in the 8 highest risk regions (high risk regions have the highest passenger volume and density, most underground or underwater track mileage, and most critical infrastructure).
FY09 Funding Priorities reflect projects that prevent or protect against terrorism and will have an immediate impact in reducing risk. Examples: security training for frontline employees; visible/unpredictable deterrence activities, such as canine and mobile screening teams, and Visible Intermodal Protection and Response (VIPR) Teams; drills and exercises; and public awareness programs.
