The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department believes the protection of life and property is our highest priority. The Department shall protect the rights and the dignity of all persons with courtesy and compassion.

To that end, the mission of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department is to enhance the quality of life in the
County of St. Clair by working cooperatively with the public and within the framework of the United States Constitution to enforce laws, preserve peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment.

The Sheriff of St. Clair County is the chief peace officer in the County. The Sheriff is the conservator of the peace in St. Clair County and works to prevent crime and maintain the safety and order of the citizens. It is the Sheriff’s job to assure those who violate the law are brought to trial.

The
St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department consists of 160 full-time sworn deputies, 20 civilian employees and 39 Auxiliary Deputies. The department also provides a full service Patrol Division, Correction’s Division, Civil Process Section and Court Bailiff Services.

The Sheriff is also responsible for managing all prisoners confined to the St. Clair County Jail and to be responsible for delivering prisoners to court for arraignments, bench or jury trials.


The
St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is constantly striving to improve its service to the community through innovate programs and additional services.
