Notice Number:
NOT-HL-06-120
Key Dates
Release Date: June 6, 2006
Issued by
National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), (http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/)
The purpose of this Notice is to announce the intention to issue a Request
for Applications (RFA) in early 2006 to support development, implementation,
and evaluation of one-year multidisciplinary courses to develop research careers
of clinician-scientists. The receipt date for applications would be in the
fall of 2006.
This RFA will support multidisciplinary, genomic research training and investigations
to develop the early research careers of both clinician and non-clinician
scientists who are interested in furthering our knowledge of the genetic bases
of chronic lung disease. This initiative addresses the shortage of well-trained
clinician-scientists and other health science professionals who are capable
of using the resources provided by the human genome project to address important
biomedical and biological research problems related to complex lung diseases.
Relevant disciplines and expertise include epidemiology and population genetics,
human sample selection, genomic sequencing and SNPs analysis, expression profile
analysis, statistics, and bioinformatics. The program will have a one-year,
multidisciplinary, core curriculum of didactic courses and hands-on activities,
followed by two to four years of mentored research.
The experience generated by this effort will contribute to the development of clinician-scientists committed to investigating the underlying pathways to lung diseases, the interaction of lung disease components with each other and with the environment. Results have the potential to identify novel predictors of lung disease, new therapeutic interventions, prevention strategies and treatments, as well as predictors of response to treatment.
This Notice is to encourage investigators who believe that they have sufficient expertise to begin considering applying for this RFA program.
APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
