Uzbek Farmers Learn New Water Management Techniques

Recently, farmers from various water user associations in Bukhara and Samarkand regions spent three weeks learning about water management and farming at the University of Alabama – Huntsville during an exchange visit organized by the USAID Community Connections Program.

The group visited local farms, cooperatives, irrigation projects, and the State Farmers Federation. The program also offered cultural component, including visit to Washington, group outings, field trips, and weekend get-togethers with host families. Upon their return to Uzbekistan, participants began developing personal plans on how they will attain higher crop yields through more efficient use of water resources and improved administrative system of their water users associations.
