Local Primary Health Care Practitioners Launch Family Planning Initiative

A family group practice in Chon-Gara Village, Batken Rayon recently launched a community-based family planning counseling and training program to educate villagers about sexually transmitted infections and reproductive health issues.

The initiative was inspired by the USAID-funded Healthy Families project, implemented by Project Hope, which had delivered a series of trainings on family planning, reproductive health and sexually transmitted infections for medical staff at the Chon-Gara Village Family Group Practice.

Empowered with new knowledge and skills, the practitioners organized a room at their clinic for health education services designed to raise health awareness and enable villagers to take greater responsibility for their health.

Health practitioners prepared some visual teaching materials, while the Healthy Families project provided teaching materials in Kyrgyz and Russian languages and contraceptive samples. The Family Group Practice also organized a mini-library with health-related literature, collected from Healthy Families, as well as other donors and projects.

The Family Group Practice now provides both individual and group counseling and training for women of reproductive age.
