High Performance Buildings

The President’s Memorandum of Understanding for Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings (24 January 2006) “commits federal leadership in the design, construction and operation of High-Performance and Sustainable Buildings”. This charges agencies with implementing design and operation strategies that provide optimal performance and maximize life-cycle asset value.

The Applied Research program provides research necessary for federal agencies to adopt sustainability practices and high performance building strategies in all building projects – from workplace and building renovations to the design of new buildings.  Current research projects focus on the following:
