	The Governor’s Celebration of Volunteerism Governor Charlie Crist speaks about the importance of volunteering in your community.>> The first Governor’s Celebration of Volunteerism, held at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center on April 14, was a great success, with celebrity speakers, entertainment and more than 125 people in attendance! The purpose of the Celebration, which was held in conjunction with the 5th Annual Florida Volunteer Month observance, was to recognize and honor the successes of our many volunteers across Florida, and to support the efforts of the Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service to engage volunteers to address the many needs in our state. 	Join Hands Day Across Florida! In conjunction with National Join Hands Day, Floridians all over the state will come together on Saturday, May 2, 2009, for Join Hands Day Across Florida. Projects range from preparing disaster kits for the elderly to community education to organizing blood drives. To find a project in your area, contact your local volunteer center or visit www.joinhandsday.org. 2009 King Day of Service is Largest Ever! Literacy AmeriCorps Palm Beach County created a mural to inspire their community to make a pledge of non-violence.>> The 2009 King Day of Service experienced a historic level of participation as Americans across the country honored Dr. King by serving their communities on the January 19 King Holiday. In total, more than 13,000 projects took place, more than doubling last year’s record of 5,000 projects.
