Welcome to the site of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). The Institute is an authoritative source of innovative solutions for the built environment.

The following are all active councils of the National Institute of Building Sciences: the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council, the Building Seismic Safety Council, the buildingSMART alliance, the High Performance Building Council, the Multihazard Mitigation Council, and the Building Enclosure Council. The Facility Maintenance and Operations Committee is a standing Institute committee. 

Programs and projects include: HAZUS Multihazard Loss Estimation, National Building Information Model Standard (NBIMS), National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities, Total Building Commissioning, and Whole Building Design Guide.

The Institute also publishes the United States National CAD StandardAsbestos and Lead-Based Paint Guidance Manuals, The Journal of Building Enclosure Design (JBED), the Journal of Building Information Modeling (JBIM) and several other informative publications and resources.
