National Institutes of Health

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is pleased to announce the
publication of the “Proactive Compliance Site Visits 2000: A Compendium
of Findings and Observations”
(http://grants.nih.gov/grants/compliance/compendium_2000.htm). This
document is available on the Grants Compliance and Oversight Web page
(http://grants.nih.gov/grants/compliance/compliance.htm), which is
linked on the Office of Extramural Research (OER) homepage
(http://grants.nih.gov/grants/oer.htm) under Grant Topics.

As a result of the ten Proactive Compliance Site Visits (PCSVs)
conducted by NIH during FY2000, the Division of Grants Compliance and
Oversight in the Office of Policy for Extramural Research
Administration, OER, has developed a compendium that summarizes the
observations and comments from the NIH site visit team as well as
institutional observations.

A key feature of the compendium is “Examples of Compliance in Action,”
which describes practices observed during the site visits. The
Compendium is organized into four sections: Introduction,
Participating Institutions, Summary of General Observations, and
Summary of Subject Matter Topic Observations. It is in the last
section that information on each topic area and Examples of Compliance
in Action may be found.

NIH is making this document available to the broader biomedical
research community as an educational tool to promote awareness of and
compliance with NIH policies. As NIH conducts further PCSVs,
additional information will be made available on the Grants Compliance
and Oversight website.
