US Army Commendation - Barry Mickela

Volpe Center's Advanced Vehicle Technology Division, Barry Mickela, received commendation from The Army's Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) on delivery and acceptance of a new shuttlewagon railcar spotter. Three more spotters like this were delivered to Radford Virginia (Radford Army Ammunition Plant), Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, and McAlester Oklahoma (U.S. Army Ammunition Plant). These spotters are used for railcar shuttling as well as Association of American Railroad (AAR) rail impact testing. Aside from enhancing rail operations, these spotters are road friendly which allows for better maneuverability and towing capabilities. All four spotters were well received by all locations. (June 2001)

Col. Ellis of the ATC:

" Thanks to your efforts, rail impact testing at ATC has been greatly enhanced. The Shuttlewagon will benefit our organization and its customers for many years to come."
