Project Title: Partners for Livable Communities
Project Location: Rochester, New York
Applicant Information: Partners for Livable Communities
Type of applicant: Non-Profit
Total Grant: $25,000.00
Brief Summary: Partners for Livable Communities (Partners) and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) will work with the City of Rochester, NY to develop policies and tools that will lead to an environment that is both elder friendly and that incorporates the principles of Smart Growth. The constituencies supporting older persons and those that support sustainability have much in common. The opportunity to demonstrate this linkage is perfect for Rochester where the population is aging and where the mayor supports Smart Growth. Rochester has a unique decentralized governance structure in place that will facilitate the gathering and dissemination of information as well as building public support. This pilot project will provide Partners and n4a the necessary information to develop a National Blueprint for Aging and Smart Growth that can be a model for communities throughout the country.
Environmental Outcomes: The application of smart growth and aging friendly principles will increase health and livability of all community members. The project will educate the Rochester community about the positive impacts of smart growth strategies on the environment. Through local involvement in the Steering Committees and educational seminars and charettes, the project will demonstrate results through the creation of a sustainable community.
