Biography of George A. Laudato

Laudato George Laudato leads the Middle East Bureau as the Administrator's Special Assistant for the Middle East at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). He has more than 45 years of experience in international program development and management in the private and public sectors in Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Central Europe.

From 1998 to 2007, Laudato was Managing Senior Vice President of the International Health Area at Abt Associates, directing programs across 40 projects and more than 350 employees worldwide.

Prior to joining Abt, Laudato served for 29 years with USAID, where he directed major regional and policy bureaus and led country missions. He was Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Asia and the Near East from 1991 to 1995 and for the Bureau for Program and Policy Coordination from 1988 to 1990.

He opened the USAID Mission in Nicaragua in 1990, as Director, reestablishing a USAID program in the country, and has served as both Deputy Director and Associate Director of USAID's Mission in Egypt from 1984 to 1988. In these positions, he coordinated international policy and led the development of USAID policies on issues such as microenterprise, mixed/tied credits and local currency management. He also led efforts to bring private business firms more directly into the economic assistance policy decision-making process.

Laudato carried out economics coursework at George Washington University and received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Seton Hall University.
