If you have questions regarding Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act (BPCA) activities at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), please contact members of the Obstetric and Pediatric Pharmacology Branch (OPPB).
The role of OPPB, within NICHD, NIH, is to improve pediatric therapeutics by:
- Developing, facilitating, and implementing research and clinical trials strategies to improve safe and effective use of drugs in obstetrics and pediatrics
- Promoting pharmacological research in obstetrics and pediatrics through contracts, cooperative agreements, and grants
- Designing and conducting safe clinical trials in pediatrics and obstetrics
- Working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to improve labeling of drugs for use in obstetrics and pediatrics
- Educating pediatric and obstetric practitioners in therapeutics
- Providing training in pharmacology research
- Developing a nationwide infrastructure to support clinical trials in obstetric and pediatric pharmacology
- Working with relevant federal agencies to promulgate evidence-based therapeutic guidelines in pregnancy and for pediatric patients
