Private Sector Partners

Corporate partnerships play a vital role in helping the Global Alliance to expand responsible forestry practices and reduce illegal logging. Global Alliance corporate partners lead by example with their own responsible environmental and social policies, and by funding activities like the organization of producer groups, trade studies, and market research.

The Home Depot is an industry leader in providing wood
products from responsibly managed forests.
The corporate partners of the Global Alliance — together with their counterparts in the public sector and civil society — are demonstrating that strategically combining their resources and capabilities leads to increased reach and effectiveness.

The Home Depot

The Home Depot was founded in 1978 and has since become the world’s largest home improvement retailer, operating more than 1,600 stores worldwide. They are credited with having revolutionized the home improvement industry by offering an unparalleled selection of products and services. With fiscal year 2002 sales of $58.2 billion, The Home Depot employs approximately 296,000 associates and has stores in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico.

“To satisfy our corporate commitment to forest conservation, The Home Depot depends on a reliable supply of wood products from responsibly managed forests. That’s why supporting the Global Alliance makes so much sense for us. The Home Depot will support efforts to promote responsible forestry and curb illegal logging for years to come.”

Ron Jarvis, The Home Depot’s Vice President of Merchandising

IKEA

IKEA supports the Global Alliance in efforts to strengthen forest certification and promote legal compliance in forestry and trade, a cooperation that helps IKEA in implementing its forest action plan. This support is channeled through the WWF/IKEA Partnership on Forest Projects. Together, Global Alliance members and IKEA are committed to promoting responsible forestry to secure forest resources for both present and future needs. IKEA and its partners in the Global Alliance believe that when raw materials are extracted from forests, the biological and social values of the forests must be maintained and protected.

On-the-ground, IKEA’s efforts support a number of forest conservation activities in the WWF/IKEA Partnership in China, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria and the Baltic countries, namely Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
