Innovative Practices in State DOT Work Force Management
The challenge to recruit and retain qualified employees in public agencies is not new.  But today's State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) are operating in an environment of increased private sector competition, a changing political environment, closer legislative oversight, increasing reliance on technology, and a work force nearing retirement.
Although there is no right way to recruit and retain good employees, state agencies are using innovative approaches and developing original programs to specifically address work force issues.
The innovative practices presented here represent some of those original programs.
