Why the Name Change from Teamwork to Team Spirit?
Who We Are
Team Spirit builds successful employee teams that combine their strengths to improve collective performance. The senior leadership team adopted Team Spirit as a replacement for Teamwork to better capture the essence of what we want to foster throughout TSA.
"In revalidating the Core Values recently, TSA's senior leadership team changed Teamwork to Team Spirit," said Deputy Administrator Gale Rossides. "This change reflects that TSA employees don't only work together to ensure the nation's security, but are inspired by our mission and look for unique ways to inspire those around us."
Team Spirit is the character of a group that makes its members want to succeed. Examples of how we demonstrate Team Spirit are:
- Creating an environment where others (including passengers) treat all TSA employees professionally and with respect.
- Giving positive feedback to each other for doing good work and achieving results, during crunch time and every day.
- Actively listening to and exploring others' ideas without judgment and without rejecting them prematurely.
- Offering constructive feedback to others with the goal of improving processes and outcomes.
- Sharing expertise, knowledge and ideas, allowing them to go from "my" idea to "our" idea.
- Being willing to request help and to assist others.
"TSA employees show Team Spirit both in and outside the workplace," said Rossides. "This enthusiasm is amazing and has positive impacts on everyone. What may seem like a small thing to you at the time may have a lasting influence for many years to come. It makes me proud to say I am a part of TSA."
