Our Recruitment Process

Professional Job Opportunities

All our Professional job opportunities are listed on this website with links to www.usajobs.opm.gov. USAJOBS is the Federal Government's job opportunities web portal where we post all our jobs. There you will find the official job announcements and on-line applications for our professional jobs. U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions.

To apply, complete the on-line application as described in the official announcement on USAJOBS. We encourage you to visit our Steps and Tips page. It has useful information on how to complete the on-line application (resumes submitted to Volpe Center Staff do not represent an application for employment unless otherwise noted).

You will be contacted by one of our Human Resources Specialists within two-to-four weeks of the closing date of the application if your background and knowledge match the job requirements.

Entry Level Opportunities ("Career Internships")

These Entry Level Opportunities ("Career Internships") exist on a regular basis as part of our Federal Career Intern Program. This is a developmental program under which "Career Interns" are appointed to a 2-year, full-time, paid internship, and are eligible for benefits and promotions. Upon successful completion of the program, an Intern may be eligible for permanent placement within the agency. Career Internship positions are open to the Public. U.S. Citizenship is required.

To apply, visit our Entry Level Opportunities page to familiarize yourself with the available internships, and follow the application instructions provided. We will contact you after the application deadline, and after we review your credentials to inform you of the outcome of the review and/or to schedule an interview.

Student Job Opportunities

Student job opportunities exist on a regular basis for undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of specialties: engineering, science, business, management information systems (MIS), policy analysis, economics, IT, environmental sciences, etc. They are all paid positions and are eligible to receive benefits. Our program runs throughout the year, you can work part-time or full-time (based on your schedule), and you are eligible to be converted to a permanent Federal employee upon graduation. U.S. Citizenship is required.

To apply, visit our Student job opportunities page, familiarize yourself with our jobs, and send an electronic copy of your resume indicating the position(s) of your interest to Eric Falzone at eric.falzone@dot.gov. We will contact you if we have a job that matches your background and career interests.
