General Information about DEERS

Each family member's eligibility record must be updated separately when changes occur.

Any changes that impact a member; retiree or their family members, survivors, or unremarried former spouses (URFSs) (e.g., marriage, birth, divorce, death) need to be reported to DEERS so that eligibility can start or stop based on Department of Defense and Service guidance.

It is essential to update home/residential addresses so important TRICARE information can be sent to beneficiaries' current, correct addresses.

Retail network pharmacies check TRICARE eligibility through DEERS. Prescriptions will be filled for beneficiaries only listed as eligible in DEERS.

If a child is over age 21 and a full-time student, his or her student status needs to get entered into DEERS so that TRICARE eligibility is not interrupted, and access to health care is not lost.
