California
- RSVP volunteers with the Seniors Program of Santa Barbara are helping to process 29 displaced families who relocated to the city. In addition, 16 volunteers are working with Direct Relief International to prepare medical supplies to be shipped to New Orleans.
Connecticut
- 20 Western Chapter of the American Red Cross RSVP volunteers are answering telephones at the Red Cross, counting donations, and helping to keep the financial information current and accurate in support of the Katrina relief effort.
- 10 United Community Services RSVP volunteers, via its Helping Hands Thrift Shop of Norwich, have assisted Katrina victims in Connecticut with basic human need items.
Iowa
- A Making Connections VISTA member in Des Moines is helping approximately 100 evacuees get in contact with organizations that provide support with filing FEMA forms, housing, clothing, jobs, counseling, government assistance, and transportation. The program is also collecting clothing, food and other goods for evacuees.
Maryland
- Baltimore County RSVP volunteers have been helping to collect over 1,358 pounds of non-perishable food items that are being delivered to Katrina evacuees in Thibodaux, La. The program is also recruiting and referring volunteers to local agencies that are providing services in response to Hurricane Katrina.
