Phoenix Supervisory Transportation Security Officer Scott Sweetalla made TSA history by becoming the agency's first employee to graduate from the prestigious U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy in Petaluma, Calif., recently. Sweetalla completed the rigorous five-week course designed to provide the knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities required to make the transition to the leadership role of chief petty officer.

TSA's involvement with the school follows an initiative to expand the academy's student population to include other agencies within the departments of Homeland Security and Defense and the Foreign Service. This class included four Air Force master sergeants, two patrol agents-in-charge from the Border Patrol, a sergeant from the St. Lucia Marine Patrol and Sweetalla.
