News & Happenings

November 21, 2007

The Department of Homeland Security has recognized TSA for its financial management accomplishments, including completing administrative reviews of appeals made by air carriers on their revised Aviation Security Infrastructure Fee assessments. As a result, DHS received more than $200 million in additional revenue collections.

At a Nov. 19 event, DHS Chief Financial Officer (CFO) David Norquist presented the annual CFO's Award for Excellence to David Nicholson, TSA's chief financial officer and assistant administrator for Finance and Administration. The award cited TSA's "strength in leadership, quality of service, and … unwavering commitment to financial management."

Throughout 2007, TSA consistently established and met milestones to achieve the best possible position in its annual audit, an independent measure of the agency's overall fiscal performance.

TSA's budget, revenue, finance and administration employees at headquarters, along with its legal team, business management officers and airport FSD staffs, worked together on programs such as property accountability and documentation, as well as on management controls that strengthened accountability and documentation for personnel, funds and equipment.

Other 2007 highlights included:

Nicholson said he "was extremely honored to receive the award that recognizes the significant accomplishments of many dedicated people in the face of substantial fiscal challenges."
