On a busy Sunday at Austin-Bergstrom International (AUS), TSO Linda Nunes observed what she thought was the outline of a handgun on a X-ray monitor at the security checkpoint.
She summoned Supervisory TSO Terry Phillips, who confirmed her suspicion and called the Austin Airport Police Department. A 9 mm handgun that the passenger claimed he forgot was in his bag.
"Anytime one of our TSOs finds a firearm it's a big deal," said AFSD-Screening Gil Almaraz. "However, in this particular instance Nunes discovered the weapon at one of the busier times on one of our busiest days. It's clear evidence that we're on the job and prepared 100 percent of the time."
Almaraz presented Nunes with an AUS Eagle Eye Award, which TSOs receive when they discover a firearm at the checkpoint.
