Dave Jones, a transportation security officer at Erie International Airport, came across a badly damaged SUV near a downed light pole on his way to work on January 20. It was 4 a.m. and driving conditions were dangerous as wintry weather hit Pennsylvania.

He saw the driver, a frightened young woman standing on the side of the road in freezing conditions, trembling, bleeding and without a coat. Jones immediately stopped his car and called 9-1-1.

While waiting for emergency responders, he helped her to his car where he administered first-aid to her bleeding hands, and kept her from going into shock by talking to her. Jones remained at the scene until police and an ambulance arrived.

"We ask that our TSOs be dedicated in everything they do, on and off the job,” said Leo Jones, assistant federal security director. “What Dave did during this emergency situation is a true indication of his dedication and shows that he has true community concern. He brings the same to his job everyday.”

The SUV driver was not severely injured. On a personal level, the incident reminded Jones to slow down and allow for extra travel time in bad weather.
