Oregon TSO Makes Heroic Effort After Crash

News & Happenings

October 4, 2007

Transportation Security Officer Pat Reade was driving to work at Eugene (Ore.) Airport/Mahlon Sweet Field one September morning when he came upon three Oregon teenagers immediately after their vehicle had crashed through a curve barrier and into an orchard.

Two youths in the front seat appeared all right, but the teen in the back seat was suffering from a serious loss of blood. Reade called for help and did all he could to keep the young man alive, including stripping off his TSA shirt to use as a compress, until the emergency crew arrived.

Later that day, Reade went to the hospital to check on the condition of the seriously injured teen and learned he had died.

Assistant Federal Security Officer Dan DesRochers and other Eugene colleagues praised Reade’s heroic efforts. "Pat is an examplary TSO ... ," said DesRochers. "We are so proud to have Reade as a part of Team Oregon and thank him for his gallant effort."
