Madison, Wisc. – Tamra Brueggeman, a transportation security officer at Dane County Regional Airport, proved that quick-thinking, a strong sense of duty and good customer service skills remain with a person even when off duty.

Driving to work on a snowy January morning, Brueggeman observed a vehicle crossing her lane and landing in a ditch. She pulled over and saw an injured woman in the vehicle.

After calling 9-1-1, the TSO, relying on her military medical training, stabilized the victim's head and applied pressure to a wound on the woman's hand. Minutes later, police and emergency personnel arrived.

“Throughout Tammy's career with TSA we have seen and heard, over and over, about her great caring and willingness to help others in need. She is truly someone who can inspire us all to do the same,” said Federal Security Director Jane Hemberger.
