PHMSA's Office of Hazardous Materials Initiatives and Training provides many personal training opportunities through our Outreach staff, the Hazardous Materials Safety Assistance Team (HMSAT). HMSAT team members are available in each of the five regions of the United States, to offer assistance in complying with the HMR, and to arrange specific training within their regions. Requests can be submitted by selecting the appropriate form for your Regional representative.

HMSAT members host two-day Multimodal Hazardous Materials Transportation Seminars several times a year, as well as single-day Hazardous Materials Transportation Workshops. Click Seminars, Workshops, and Meetings in the mini-menu to find out more.

HMSAT team members guarantee that even in a field so large in scope as Hazardous Materials Transportation Safety, PHMSA does not lose its human touch. Our HMSAT team listens to your concerns, while conveying important training information to the regulated community.

Hazardous Materials Safety Assistance Team (HMSAT)

PHMSA's Office of Hazardous Materials Initiatives and Training established this Team to increase industry awareness of the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) and Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG). The HMSAT helps businesses locate resources needed to comply with the HMR and provides technical assistance to the emergency response and planning community. The HMSAT was created with the belief that regulatory compliance and emergency preparedness begin with awareness and training.

Hazardous Materials Transportation - State and Local Education (HMT-SALE)

Hazardous materials in transportation present unique challenges to emergency responders, emergency planners, enforcement personnel, and other state and local government agencies. PHMSA is committed to improving hazardous materials transportation safety and provides technical assistance, training, and information for the development of Federal, State, and local hazardous materials transportation education programs. The HMT-SALE program provides a means to share information on hazardous materials transportation safety and security issues, identify training needs, and to capitalize PHMSA resources to meet State and local government education needs. State and local government officials interested in co-sponsoring a hazmat transportation workshop with PHMSA should contact a regional HMSAT member (see above).
