Section 5. Conclusion
As envisioned by Secretary Mineta, RITA will be a Departmental resource for guiding the coordination and management of DOT’s diverse RD&T portfolio. RITA will work with the DOT operating administrations to ensure that RD&T initiatives reflect sound investment decisions that clearly support Departmental objectives. In turn, such RD&T investments will lead to a better, more efficient national transportation system for the future.
RITA will implement a number of crosscutting strategies to further its mission to facilitate solutions to America’s transportation challenges. These strategies will support a DOT-wide process that will ensure RD&T effectiveness, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and accelerate transportation innovations. RITA looks forward to implementing this process as it works with the DOT operating administrations, Congress, and stakeholders to build a transportation system that will support the Nation’s future economic growth and prosperity.
