ATLANTA, GA – On Monday, January 19, Dr. King’s actual birthday, an anticipated 24,964 volunteers will honor the King Federal Holiday with “a day ON, not a day OFF,” by taking part in over 50 service opportunities throughout metro Atlanta. The day of service is the finale to the 16th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit, which runs from January 14-19, which is hosted by Hands On Atlanta, The King Center and presenting sponsor Delta Air Lines.

The Day of Service is an important component of the Service Summit, enabling participants to build upon the legacy of social activism established by Dr. King and other leaders of the civil rights movement. Volunteers will contribute an expected 100,000 hours of service to the community, making a lasting impact on Atlanta’s communities, schools and nonprofit agencies.

The Service Summit offers Atlantans of all ages the opportunity to explore Dr. King’s message of nonviolence and social activism through a week of free activities taking place in the King Historic District, and additional sites in the Greater Atlanta area.
