Volpe National Transportation Systems Center

Incentive Awards Program

The Volpe Center encourages excellence and celebrates the successes of employees in a variety of ways. One of those includes a vigorous incentive awards program consisting of group and team awards, individual awards of both money, recognition, and prizes, and peer awards in which colleagues at the Volpe Center nominate peers who make a difference. Awards and recognition are given throughout the year, with an Annual Awards Ceremony held to publicly recognize employees who have contributed to the Center's success throughout the year.

Some of the awards for which employees are recognized include:

  • Teamwork Awards

A monetary award for effective teamwork across the Volpe Center which enhances the Center's performance on customer-related work. Also, teamwork awards are given to members of cross-organizational teams who apply their skills and experience to internal accomplishments. Proven team spirit, interaction, cooperation, and participation by all members are key.

  • Individual Awards

Volpe Center employees are eligible for a variety of monetary and gift certificate awards for effective leadership within the Center, for a special act, service or achievement, for exceptional courtesy and responsiveness resulting in quality service to customers, or for accomplishing exceptional results in their job.

  • Peer Award Recommendations

Volpe Center employees can nominate another employee who has taken action that clearly helps the nominator meet a customer's needs. This award focuses on single events and short periods of performance and reinforces special efforts with immediate recognition. A gift certificate and Volpe Center golf shirt or hat are sought-after prizes given to winners.

  • U.S. DOT Secretarial and Administrator Awards

In the fall of each year, the Office of the Secretary of Transportation recognizes employees department-wide by bringing employees to Washington to recognize them at the Annual Secretarial Awards Ceremony. These awards comprise the highest recognition that the Department can give. The Volpe Center is consistently well-represented at the Secretary's Award Ceremony.

Volpe Center employees are recognized by the Administrator of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration and the Director of the Center at the Annual Volpe Center Awards Ceremony. At the ceremony, Administrator's Awards, Directors Awards, Group Achievement Awards, and honors and awards presented to employees by professional and charitable organizations are presented and recognized.
