National Outreach & Media Intern (NOMI) position – Fall / Spring

Becoming an OLE Agent or OfficerWHAT:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service’s (NOAA Fisheries), Office for Law Enforcement periodically opens internship. These positions are at our Headquarters office in Silver Spring, MD. (Red line - Silver Spring Metro stop)

REQUIREMENTS:

U.S. Citizenship
Undergraduate / Graduate student status
Ability to pass Interim Security Screening
Part-time – 12-16 hrs

INTERNSHIP GEARED TOWARDS:

Students majoring in: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Criminal Justice or Environmental Sciences

SKILLS NEEDED:

Resourceful Verbal communication skills Integrity
Articulate Knowledge of the media Organized
Dependable Writing skills Detail oriented

BACKGROUND:

Intern will have opportunity to interact with divisional offices, fishing industry reps, non-governmental organizations and other federal, state, and local governmental agencies. (Coordination)
Intern will have opportunity to work with various media outlets responding to inquiries, marketing potential TV segments, writing and marketing news articles. (Media)
Intern will have opportunity to write and review OLE news releases for NOAA Fisheries PA approval. (Media)
Intern will have opportunity to develop photographic library on the internet for outreach purposes. (Organizational)
Intern will have opportunity to assist with layout and design of various publications to include; annual report, event/activity specific brochures, media packs, recruitment brochures and various forms of informational materials. (Design)
Intern will have opportunity to assist in production and distribution phases of "educational hand-outs" for various trade shows, meetings and events. (Production)
Intern will have opportunity to coordinate public events for education and outreach purposes. (Public Affairs)
Intern may be required to perform administrative assistant duties from time to time, including; answering phones, collecting and checking mail, and filing. (Office)

LOGISTICS:

Fall & Spring – Unpaid (This is a ‘Volunteer’ position)
Interns receive school credit
