Governor's Commission on Disability

The Commission

The New Hampshire Governor's Commission on Disability (GCD) is committed to ensuring that our web site is accessible to everyone. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the accessibility of this site, please contact us, as we are continually striving to improve the experience for all of our visitors. Please bear with us while we update this website. If you have a problem with any of our links or information, please contact us at disability@nh.gov.

The Commission’s goal is to remove the barriers, architectural, attitudinal or programmatic, which bar persons with disabilities from participating in the mainstream of society.

In order to lead full and productive lives, persons with disabilities need access to employment, housing, education, recreation, transportation, healthcare, shopping and other opportunities available to anyone else.

The GCD office in Concord receives approximately 200 requests for information per month from persons with disabilities, service providers, legislators, and state and local officials. In an effort to eliminate barriers, GCD staff provide information about the many services, laws and regulations that affect citizens with disabilities. Technical assistance is provided to architects, property owners and building inspectors in order to create a barrier-free environment. The Commission advises the Governor and other state and local officials about disability-related matters, including legislation.

The Commission also provides informational seminars and events and publishes a weekly newspaper column, "Beyond the Barriers", highlighting issues of interest to persons with disabilities and their advocates.
