Just Another Friday Morning at TSA: Guns, Knives, Hidden Items and Fake Documents

Every day presents different challenges to TSA at airports across the country. Today – February 22, 2008, is no different. By 9:00 a.m. EST - before many people have had their morning coffee - the following incidents occurred:

1:53 a.m. - In California, a TSA travel document checking officer detected a fraudulent California driver's license, and after further investigation, law enforcement authorities determined the passenger had an expired visa.

4:57 a.m. – In upstate New York, a security officer found a knife hidden in a shoe, wrapped in clothing, and put at the bottom of the carry-on bag. Another knife was found hidden in a gift-wrapped box. The passenger, who knew he could not take the knives through the checkpoint, surrendered them to law enforcement.

7:15 a.m. - In Massachusetts, a TSA behavior detection officer observed a passenger exhibiting suspicious behavior and sent him for additional screening. The security officer who conducted the screening found a bag of marijuana hidden in the passenger's groin area. The passenger was arrested.

7:15 a.m. - A security officer in an Arkansas airport removed a .32 caliber Keltec firearm loaded with seven rounds of ammunition from a carry-on bag. The passenger, who said he forgot the gun was in his bag, was arrested.

7:45 a.m. - In a Texas airport, a security officer found a .25 Caliber Berretta semi-automatic firearm, loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and one in the chamber, in a carry-on bag in one airport. The passenger was arrested.

8:13 a.m. - At another Texas airport, a security officer detected a .9mm Glock 26 firearm loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition and one round in the chamber in a carry-on bag.
