Are you ready to become a member of the DOT family? Here's how….
Step 1: Search DOT's Job Listings
For a list of current DOT job vacancies, please go to
http://jobsearch.dot.gov/.
For positions in the Senior Executive Service, please visit
http://jobsearch.usajobs.opm.gov/ses.asp
Step 2: Review Job Announcement
Once you have found a job you are interested in, please read the specific job announcement carefully. Each job announcement will have information pertaining to the job duties, salary, duty location and benefits. Please pay close attention to job qualification requirements. This section will help you determine if your professional background makes you a good match for the job.
Step 3: Complete the Application
The final step in the application process is critical. To make the process simple and fast, we strongly encourage you to follow the application instructions provided. Application procedures and requirements vary from one DOT job to another, so please read carefully.
If you need reasonable accommodation for any part of the application and/or questionnaire process, please notify the specific hiring office.
You may apply for most DOT jobs with:
- Your resume, or
- An Optional Application for Federal Employment (OF-612), or
- Any other written format you choose, as long as it contains the information required by the vacancy announcement
If the job application identifies specific job knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs), please pay particular attention to them and respond to each, if required to do so.
Once you have completed your application, please remember to submit it by the due date. Late applications will not be accepted.
Special Hiring Authorities for People with Disabilities
If you are a person with a disability, you can apply for DOT employment opportunities using one of several special hiring authorities, including Schedules A and B.
If you are interested in applying for a position under a special hiring authority, you should submit your resume to the DOT Operating Administration Human Resources office that posted the job. You will need to demonstrate your ability to perform duties satisfactorily and be certified by counselors of state vocational rehabilitation agencies or the Veterans Administration. For more information on hiring authorities, please visit
http://www.opm.gov/disability
You should also contact a DOT Operating Administration Selective Placement Coordinator (SPC).
For a list of these individuals, please visit
file:///S:/M15/CORPORATE RECRUITMENT/SPC-COORDINATORS-LIST.doc. DOT SPCs can help you get information about current job opportunities, types of jobs in the agency and details on how these jobs are filled, as well as reasonable accommodation.
