[KISSIMMEE, FL] – Michael McBride was arrested
by members of the U.S. Marshals - Sex
Offender Investigations Branch, and Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. This
arrest was the culmination of a
coordinated effort by the U.S. Marshals – New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task
Force, the New Hampshire
State Police, U.S. Marshals from the District of Vermont, Middle District of
Florida, the Sex Offender
Investigations Branch, as well as the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office in
Florida. McBride was arrested on
multiple outstanding warrants; including a Federal arrest warrant for
Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution, a New Hampshire State Police warrant
for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, and an Aggravated Sexual Assault
warrant issued by the Vermont State Police.
Today, the combined investigative efforts of all
the participating agencies led investigators to a hotel
in the 5100 block of West Highway 192, in Kissimmee, FL. It was at this
location that McBride was
arrested without incident.
In 1993, McBride was convicted of multiple
counts of Indecent Acts with multiple Child victims. As a
result of these convictions, McBride was required by law to register as a
Sex Offender. McBride’s
whereabouts were unknown at the time the Vermont State Police issued the
first arrest warrant in January, 2009. Based on McBride’s failure to
maintain his sex offender registration, additional arrest warrants were
issued in February, 2009 and a fugitive investigation was initiated by the
New Hampshire State Police. On February 3, 2009, the New Hampshire State
Police requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals – New Hampshire Joint
Fugitive Task Force to locate and arrest McBride.
McBride fled New England, and severed all
ties to his family and friends to avoid arrest. “The New
Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force was developed with this type of case in
mind. McBride is a convicted, violent sex offender who preys on young
children. It is our duty to find and arrest dangerous people and protect our
society” said U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier.
McBride was booked at the Osceola County (FL)
Jail, and is currently being held pending his initial
court appearance at the Osceola County Courthouse on March 11, 2009. Pending
further investigation by the U.S. Marshals, McBride may also be facing
Federal prosecution under the Adam Walsh Act.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the
apprehension of approximately
36,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals
than all other federal agencies
combined.
The New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force
is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from
agencies throughout NH. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest
violent fugitives. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than
73,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
