The Texas Rangers and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Partner with Numerous Agencies in Texas Style Manhunt to Capture Capital Murder Suspect |
San
Antonio, TX – The United States Marshals Service’s Lone Star Fugitive
Task Force partnered with the Texas Rangers and the Gonzales County
Sheriff’s Office in the hunt for a murder suspect that had shot three
females. Much of the search was at night on horseback behind prison tracking
dogs with a DPS search helicopter circling overhead. All of this began after
an early Saturday morning 911 call for help came in to the Gonzales County
Sheriff’s Office Dispatch. When officers arrived they found three
victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Janice Trent (07/31/1953) was
deceased, Allyson Trent (10/06/1976) and her juvenile daughter were
seriously wounded. Jarett Eldridge (07/07/1979) was named a suspect and a
murder warrant was issued. After the shooting, Texas Rangers called their partners in the LSFTF and the manhunt was on. After locating Jarett’s abandoned car late in the afternoon on Interstate 10 in rural Guadalupe County, a request was made to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to bring in prison staff with tracking dogs and horses. A DPS helicopter was also requested and responded. The prison tracking dogs and horses arrived just before dark and the manhunt continued. Between the prison tracking dogs, the DPS helicopter and information developed, Jarett was found hiding near a vacant building at a rock quarry about two miles from his car. He was arrested without incident at approximately 9:30 pm on Saturday and transported to the Guadalupe County Jail. The United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas LaFayette Collins said, “I hope the person responsible for this tragic and senseless crime is held accountable. Thanks to the cooperation of all the law enforcement agencies, this dangerous suspect was quickly captured”. Participating agencies in this arrest with the United States Marshals Service:
