Freight Rail Security Grant Awards

Grant Awards for Fiscal Years 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009

The FY09 FRSGP will provide $15 million in funding to eligible applicants in the freight railroad industry. The FY2009 FRSGP provides funding to Class I, II and III railroad operators that transport security-sensitive materials (SSM) through high-density population areas to perform vulnerability assessments and security plans and/or conduct security training for railroad front-line employees. In FY 2009, the FRSGP also funded owners and offerors of railcars that ship TIH (Toxic by Inhalation Hazardous Materials) to acquire and install Geographic Positioning Systems (GPS) on those cars. Proposals from 23 companies were selected for award by a panel of multi-agency experts.

The following pie chart illustrates the distribution of funding by project type for the FY09 FRSGP. For comparison purposes, project funding levels for FY08 are also provided in a PowerPoint document below.

FRSGP: FY08; $15,000,000. GPS 75%. Vulnerability Assessments and Security Plans 14%. Training 11%.

*This total award amount includes a $2.25 M pilot project for CSX not reflected in the Pie Chart.
