Current Activities
Major Initiative Status Report
Ongoing IVBSS activities:

The IVBSS program has awarded a $25 million contract to the University
of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI). Partnering
with UMTRI are Visteon, Eaton, Cognex, Honda R&D Americas,
Battelle and the Michigan Department of Transportation. The consortium
will develop and test a new, integrated crash warning system in a
fleet of 16 passenger cars and 10 heavy-duty trucks. UMTRI will serve
as the primary contractor, coordinating the work of the partnership
and conducting the field experiments. The partners will contribute
an additional $6.6 million.

An IVBSS Team has been formed, consisting of representatives from NHTSA, FHWA ITS Joint Program Office, FTA, FMCSA, NIST, and the Volpe Center. A Program Plan was completed and approved by U.S. DOT management.

On September 21, 2004, a Public Meeting and Workshop was held in Novi, MI to present the Program Plan and to obtain input from stakeholders (link to Stakeholder Involvement page).

Stakeholder input was gathered and used to fine-tune the Program Plan; changes to the Plan were presented to U.S. DOT management and approved.
