Sebelius Sworn in as HHS Secretary
On Tuesday, April 28, the Senate approved the nomination of Governor Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Senate vote was 65-31 and largely along party lines, with Democrats voting for approval and all but nine Republicans voting against confirmation. Soon after the confirmation vote, President Obama swore in Governor Sebelius to immediately begin her term as the 21st Secretary of HHS. While her first focus will be responding to the swine flu emergency, Secretary Sebelius will soon turn to the larger effort of helping to pass an overhaul of the US healthcare system.
