Project Focus
Inside Out: An Integrative Critique of the Northern Ireland Peace Process

Stephen Farry is the general secretary for the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. He was involved in the negotiations that led to the Good Friday Agreement, and worked with the British, Irish, and American governments in subsequent talks to realize the implementation of those accords. He served as a member of North Down Borough Council (in suburban Belfast) since 1993, including a term as deputy mayor.

Currently, he chairs the finance and urban regeneration committees. He has also worked with the National Democratic Institute in Washington, D.C., assisting as a pro bono trainer and consultant on four projects on Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Farry received his B.S.Sc. in politics from the Queen’s University of Belfast and attended an executive program, “Managing Change in a Diverse Society,” at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

He received his Ph.D. on the United Nations, collective security and the national interest, from Queen’s University of Belfast.
