WHEREAS, on May 17, 2008, Serve DC and the DC InterCorps Council will bring together hundreds of national service members and community participants for a day of service during the Sixth Annual DC All Corps Service Day; and

WHEREAS, AmeriCorps is national service program that engages more than 75,000 Americans ages 17 and older in programs that help enhance the quality of life of others; and

WHEREAS, more than 1,500 national service members are providing 2,550,000 hours of service with more than 100 non-profit, faith-based, and government and educational agencies in the District of Columbia in the areas of health, education, environment, public safety, and other human needs; and

NOW THEREFORE, I THE MAYOR OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, do hereby proclaim May 17th, 2008, as “ALL CORPS SERVICE DAY” in Washington, DC.
