A Life Inspired, a remarkable new book of Peace Corps Volunteer reminiscences, is being published to mark the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Peace Corps. A Life Inspired tells the varied and uplifting stories of ordinary Americans who responded to the challenges of life as a Volunteer in extraordinary ways. A Life Inspired: Tales of Peace Corps Service 2006 marks the 45 th Anniversary of the Peace Corps. As part of its celebration, the Peace Corps is publishing A Life Inspired, a lively, eye-opening book recounting the encounters and experiences of 28 Volunteers as they pursued their Peace Corps service. Compelling, inspiring, sometimes funny, often poignant, these first-person stories represent the breadth of Peace Corps work, the countries it serves, and the diversity of its Volunteers. Together, the stories reflect the adventure, the cross-cultural exchange, the personal growth, and the deep friendships forged as part of the Peace Corps Volunteers journey. The book begins with a Foreword by Peace Corps Director Gaddi H. Vasquez that outlines the work of Peace Corps Volunteers and how they exemplify living “a life inspired”. The stories are grouped under three themes:
