The Minnesota Department of Health has identified three new probable cases of the HINI novel influenza virus in Minnesota; one in Washington County and two in Hennepin County.

State health officials moving into new phase in responding to H1N1 novel influenza virus      May 5, 2009
Illness appears to be acting more like regular, seasonal influenza; New approach will be used for flu surveillance, influenza in schools
State health officials have announced that their response to the novel H1N1 influenza virus is moving into a new phase, with a new approach to tracking the illness and new recommendations for handling potential flu cases in schools.

Two of Minnesota's probable H1N1 cases are in persons in schools that will close Monday      May 4, 2009
Further investigation by the Minnesota Department of Health has determined that two of Minnesota's cases of probable H1N1 novel influenza virus are in persons in two schools. As a result, school officials have decided to close the schools beginning Monday as a precaution.

Minnesota pumps up biodiesel blend effective May 1, 2009      May 4, 2009
Renewable fuel in Minnesota is being pumped up today, as the state's diesel fuel supply increases from a 2 percent (B2) biodiesel blend to 5 percent (B5). The change is part of Governor Pawlenty's plan to make Minnesota the first state in the nation to require B20 by 2015.

According Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS), more than half (56 percent) of teens (ages 16-19) killed during spring in recent years were not belted. DPS also reports teen drinking and driving-related crashes peak April through June.

State Veterinarian urges producers to vaccinate against anthrax      April 28, 2009
Producers in northwestern Minnesota are urged to vaccinate their cattle soon against naturally-occurring anthrax. With a little rain and a lot of hot weather, the invisible, spore-forming bacteria Bacillus anthracis can resurface, putting unvaccinated livestock at risk in the area.

In addition, the report examines long-term trends that counties have experienced over the last 5 and 10 years.
