Tinalynn Wolfe |
Southwest Lousiana Area Health Education Center |
|
During her two years as an AmeriCorps member with the Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center, Tinalynn Wolfe was placed with the Cameron Council on Aging in Louisiana's Cameron Parish, one of the state's most medically underserved areas. She provided a wide array of services to homebound seniors as well as those seniors who attended senior centers, and conducted outreach for the program. She also coordinated a summer job-shadow program, introducing students from the parish's three high schools to an array of careers in health care. Coordinating the program included securing rides for the hour-long drive to health care facilities in Lake Charles, La., since Cameron Parish has limited medical facilities. After completing her service—a total of 4,003 hours in two years, meeting the President's Call to Service and exceeding the 3,400 required for two years of AmeriCorps service—Tinalynn is now working permanently with the Cameron Council on Aging and continues to volunteer with community groups. |
