Facts and Figures for 2006

During 2006,

• We screened 708,400,522. The average wait time was 3.79 minutes and the average peak wait time was 11.76 minutes.
• We screened 535,020,271 individual pieces of checked luggage.  We opened 16 percent of these checked bags (85,571,710 bags) searching for prohibited items
• We intercepted 13,709,211 prohibited items at our security checkpoints. Of this, 11,616,249 were lighters and 1,607,100 were knives.
