DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH
Southeastern New Mexico/Western Texas: New swaths of rather significant blowing dust were visible this morning extending from southeastern New Mexico eastward across western Texas, including Lubbock and Midland. Central Plains: A combination of residual blowing dust and smoke from yesterday's significant blowing dust event over the Southwest and major agricultural burning over eastern Kansas and eastern Oklahoma was visible this morning over eastern Colorado, southwestern Nebraska, western and central Kansas, western Oklahoma, and extreme northwestern Texas. This combination of smoke and blowing dust was wrapping in a cyclonic direction around a low pressure system located along the border of southwestern Kansas and Northwestern Oklahoma. Elsewhere: Goes-East visible imagery did not appear to show any significant leftover smoke from yesterday's large number of fires detected across the Southeastern U.S. although the National Weather Service Air Quality Smoke Forecast Guidance does indicate a band of leftover smoke extending from the area of smoke/blowing dust over the Central Plains described above southeastward to off the GA/SC/FL coast. More residual smoke was forecast to be along and off the Mid-Atlantic coast.
