Transportation Safety Institute

TSI Facilities

The Institute is located in Oklahoma City at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC), a large Federal Aviation Administration training and materials facility. Oklahoma City was chosen as the headquarters of TSI because of its central location, and because the MMAC was able to provide all necessary training support services to the Institute, such as audiovisual productions, printing, classrooms, space for accident investigation wreckage and mock-ups, etc., as well as administrative services.

Recent growth of TSI requires the use of several buildings for offices, classrooms, and laboratory space. The relative location of each is shown on the map. TSI Headquarters (Main Campus) is in the Multi-Purpose Building at the Aeronautical Center. The South Campus is located in the southwest area of the MMAC property. Both facilities offer classrooms and offices with bright, modern, self-contained learning centers and a full complement of state-of-the-art teaching equipment and models.

Outside training sites are equipped to provide hands-on workshop application to complement classroom instruction. Among these sites are areas for:

  • Aircraft wreckage and parts (fixed-wing and rotorcraft) comprise an area of about 40,000 square feet containing a wide variety of specially selected accident samples;
  • Pipeline demonstration and corrosion monitoring field, with selected sections of buried pipe for corrosion inducement, detection, and control; and
  • A large, open bay, laboratory building for accident investigation exercises involving large wreckage, accident scene layout, and other hands-on activities for specialized training.
