Continuing the Colleges' commitment to public service, and in recognition of students' dedication to service learning, Hobart and William Smith Colleges offers an AmeriCorps Matching Grant to qualified AmeriCorps students. This award matches, on a semester basis, the AmeriCorps funds the student requests for education costs through their AmeriCorps voucher, up to a maximum of $1,000 per academic year. Students must be admitted to Hobart and William Smith Colleges and attending on a full-time basis. Awards will be matched upon receipt of the AmeriCorps voucher.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges place significant value on fostering social responsibility and public service. In fact, Hobart and William Smith Colleges was the only liberal arts institution in New York (and one of 81 institutions in 33 states) selected by The Princeton Review and Campus Compact as a “Colleges with a Conscience” – a guidebook that rates institutions on outstanding community involvement.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges offers a variety of service opportunities for students including a Habitat for Humanity chapter; Alternative Spring Break; the America Reads and Jumpstart programs in local elementary schools; Geneva Heroes – in which HWS students perform leadership training with eighth graders in Geneva; a Students Organized for Service (SOS) group; participation in “Celebrate Service, Celebrate Geneva – an annual day of service to the greater Geneva community; and more.
