$600 Million in Superfund Money Distributed to 50 Sites in 28 States
April 15 - EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson today announced $600 million in new funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for the cleanup of hazardous waste (Superfund) sites across the nation. In most cases, this recovery act funding will accelerate the hazardous waste cleanup already underway at the sites and fund new clean-up projects.

$197 Million to Clean up Petroleum Leaks Will Create Jobs, Protect Land and Water
April 8 - In an effort to protect people where they live, work, and play, EPA announced the distribution of $197 million appropriated under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to assess and clean up underground storage tank petroleum leaks. EPA estimates that these funds will create or retain significant numbers of jobs and contribute to at least 1,600 cleanups around the country.

Request for Applications Issued for $5 Million in Job Training Grants Under the Recovery Act
March 19 - EPA issued a request for applications (RFA) from eligible governmental entities and nonprofit organizations to provide environmental job training projects that will facilitate job creation in the assessment, remediation, or preparation of brownfields sites for sustainable reuse. The closing date for receipt of applications is April 20, 2009.
