Working
in close coordination with multiple Federal agencies allows
NOAA Fisheries OLE special agents and enforcement officers
to maximize their efforts and effectively enforce the laws
that protect our living marine resources.
While the U.S. Coast Guard remains the OLE’s strongest
Federal partner, other agencies support the OLE, including:
the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the
Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife
Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug
Enforcement Agency, the U.S. Department of Justice, the
Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration.
While formal partnerships are established with numerous
governmental and law enforcement agencies, each divisional
office also maintains informal partnerships with various
environmental, educational and civic organizations.
These partnerships are mutually supporting as OLE special
agents and enforcement officers have routinely assisted
other Federal agencies with marine law enforcement training
issues, serving warrants, surveillance, border inspections,
information and other necessary support.
With the increase in Homeland Security and cross-agency
collaboration, the OLE’s expertise has been applied to
various task forces and security activities including border
operations, checkpoints, dock patrols and inter-agency
meetings.
