Lawton Federal Building and U.S. CourthouseThe Lawton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, at the corner of 5th Street and Avenue E, serves as a landmark for downtown Lawton's central business district. The brick building, constructed in 1917, is an excellent example of the Neo-Classical style of architecture. During its opening, a local newspaper reported that it was "… by far the finest and best looking structure of which the city can boast." Tenants with facility related questions, concerns or requests, should contact GSA's Oklahoma Service Center, using the contact information provided above. Founded in 1901, Lawton was the last of the Oklahoma boom towns fueled by the land run. The town quickly evolved into a trading center for the large surrounding farm area and nearby Army post of Fort Sill. Major government buildings included a city hall, county courthouse, and the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse.
